When I started this newsletter, it was neither my aim, nor my intention, to make a habit of writing about death. It’s well down on my list of favorite topics, even lower than UFC and entitled rich people. But let’s face it: death happens and it doesn’t often give us much notice. So here I am, days after posting about the passing of Carl Erskine, star big-league pitcher and an even better human being, circling back to share a few thoughts about another person who has departed. Her obit didn’t run in
Beautiful tribute to Mrs. Beers, and a sentimental walk down Bunker Hill. Although I didn’t live in the neighborhood, I spent a good deal of my school years there. The good memories far outweigh the bad. And Mrs. Beers is definitely one of those great ones.
Hi Wayne! What a lovely tribute and recollection! It took me back. But I’m confused by her name. I didn’t know the Beers family that I can recall but I do think I remember a Voss family on Brookhill Lane? Any insights?
Hi Laura, The Beers lived near us on Bunkerhill and the Voss’ lived on your side, on Brookhill I think, across from the Duckworths and Simonsons. Mr. Voss was a pilot. That help?
I realize that I am quite biased, but I love this piece, and I know my mother would, too. She adored you. ♥️
Thank you, John. And thanks for sharing the beautiful photo.
Very nice! It was a great neighborhood to grow up in. Lots of lifelong friendships.
Indeed it was, Bill. Thanks for sharing.
Lovely tribute, Mr. Coffey.

Yes! That’s what I recall about the Vosses. I was confused by Mrs. Beers’ middle name!
❤️
So beautiful and loving and just the way I remember Mrs. Beers (and Mr. Beers and the sweetheart-of life Bocca.)
A beautiful tribute & attesting to your memory! Peace
